Outdoor equipment and backpacking equipment is essential to your health and safety. Items like bushcraft knives from RV Ops can prove vital in life and death situations.

Investing in outdoor equipment, backpacking equipment, tents, hiking gear and maps are crucial if you want to safeguard your safety and that of those around you. Outdoor equipment and backpacking equipment can offer everything you need for effective shelter, cooking facilities, orientation, outdoor clothing and tools enabling you to take on the wilderness and enjoy the great outdoors.

Outdoor Equipment and Survival Skills

There may be a glut of TV survival shows from the likes of Ray Mears and Bear Grylls, but a quick scan of the news headlines shows how dangerous nature can be. By packing the appropriate backpacking equipment you can help ensure you’re prepared for almost any eventuality. Many British students take gap year holidays in popular destinations like Australia. But the country has a wide range of challenges from the acrid outback to tropical rainforest. By doing your research, shopping carefully for outdoor equipment and backpacking equipment, you can help make sure your trip is an enjoyable one, not a tragic one. A news story that highlighted how a teenager survived two nights in the Australian rainforest shows how important the right skills are. The 19 year-old was said to be a huge fan of Ray Mears’s survival shows. After going for a walk, without any outdoor equipment or backpacking equipment, the teenager became disorientated as it grew dark. The boy didn’t have outdoor equipment such as lightweight tents or sleeping bags, and inspired by Mears built a bed out of bracken. The teenager was fit and sporty, but despite his quick wit and health, the story reveals how dangerous getting lost can be. Officers said the teenager had ‘done well’ to survive.

Backpacking Equipment – Always Plan for the Worst

Nobody should treat the wilderness lightly – and the basics for survival should be packed with the necessary outdoor equipment and backpacking equipment. Survivalists say that the motto ‘hope for the best and plan for the worst’ should be close to every trekker’s heart. The more remote the area you travel, the higher the stakes for potential danger. As well as being physically prepared with the necessary outdoor equipment and backpacking equipment, you need to be mentally tough to cope with situations that could turn into a life and death scenario.

Digital photos on canvas are the perfect way to add a personal touch to your home décor. http://www.younghouselove.com/

We all know how pictures and pieces of wall art can brighten up a new home or breathe new life into a tired old room, but when the pictures on your wall have a personal flavour, the effects can be even more amazing. Your own digital photos on canvas on the walls of your rooms can really stamp your identity on the place you live, and add a splash of your personality to the very fabric of your home.

Digital photos on canvas – enjoy your own photos every day

Like tables, chairs, wardrobes and drawers – wall art and pictures are fundamental parts of any home and they can effortlessly link together un-coordinated features of a room by acting as a bridge or a missing piece of the jigsaw. Digital photos on canvas can tie together disparate elements by adding even the most subtle hints of colour or style to enhance a living space, or even make up for compromises elsewhere in a room. And being able to use your own digital photos on canvas opens up the opportunity to shoot with your home in mind using even a modest compact digital camera, giving you more control of what you want to feature on your walls and adding a previously un-tapped creative dimension to the interior design process.

Digital photos on canvas – think before you shoot

Bear in mind what you want to get out of a particular space when you’re using your camera and then have fun trying to get the shots which capture the mood you want to set. If you entertain or hold dinner parties in your dining room, then a stylish crop of a picture of friends dressed up to the nines on a night out in a bar might set the perfect vibe. Converting it to black and white could add a classy touch and could also pull out similar neutral tones elsewhere in the room. In kids bedrooms, why not try bold and bright family photos full of sun, smiles and sandcastles. Having fun with the process will give your pictures a story, so as well as being pleasing on the eye to guests and visitors, your digital photos on canvas will evoke memories in you and your family too.

Digital photos on canvas – help sell your home

Even if you’re thinking of moving home, digital photos on canvas can add a stylish veneer which will boost the aesthetics immeasurably, with obvious positive implications on saleability. The housing market is a buyer’s one at present, and so sellers really need to pull out the stops more than ever before – digital photos on canvas will stand your property out from the crowd and help make a potential buyer’s impression of your home a truly positive one.

Photo printing on canvas is something that more and more people are turning to in order to decorate their walls and brighten up their homes. But how do you take care of your large prints? To find out more visit http://www.artisangalleries.com/blog/?p=104

Even with the best intentions in mind, it’s very easy to damage your canvas prints if you don’t know what you’re doing when it comes to cleaning. ‘Loving pictures to death’ is one of the most common ways that prints become scratched, smudged, faded or even ruined altogether. Here we’ve put together a brief guide to loving your prints:

Photo printing on canvas – keep your print looking mint

Cleaning – where possible, try not to finger the surface of the canvas directly, even if wearing soft gloves. If dust or dirt accumulates on the surface of the image, try blowing it off at first. If the dust or dirt remains, invest in a very soft cloth or a fine brush and gently ‘persuade’ the dust off the surface of the picture. Brushes made from goat hair are especially good for cleaning delicate items, and many printers who specialise in photo printing on canvas routinely use these or similarly soft brushes to remove soft soiling. Never use coarse materials or cleaning fluids to remove heavy soiling, as these can smudge ink or remove it altogether. If a stain or mark persists, take your print to a specialist cleaner.

Light – many people use directional lighting on pictures in order to emphasise their impact and ‘lift them off the wall’. While most companies that specialise in photo printing on canvas now use high quality UV inks, which is guaranteed to protect images from sunlight damage for years, some older pictures are still susceptible to the effects of prolonged exposure to sunlight. There isn’t too much that you can do to prevent this, other than to remove the picture from exposure altogether, or place a UV resistant film or sheet in front of it.

Heat and humidity – these two factors are the sworn enemies of any printed or painted surface. If possible, it’s best to avoid exposure to heat and humidity altogether, but if that’s not feasible, then regular care and maintenance is the best solution. Wipe down damp frames with a soft, absorbent cloth and dab printed or painted surfaces with cotton wool if moisture accumulates on them. If prints are placed near fireplaces, radiators or in hot kitchens, check frames regularly to make sure there’s been no movement. If printed surfaces are showing signs of scorching or intense heat damage, then move them further away from the heat source to prevent further damage or even destruction. Photo printing on canvas is good, but it can’t prevent the laws of physics from occurring!

Outside – specify to whoever is doing your photo printing on canvas that you intend to mount the print outdoors, and they’ll ensure that the printed surfaces and edges are suitably protected. Often, this involves spraying the surface with a weather-sealing lacquer, but it can sometimes involve placing a thin perspex film over the front of the print. Both solutions are easy to organise later if the printer doesn’t offer this facility.

Print photos on canvas to add a touch of class and personality to your office and create the perfect working environment. Golf prints by Sport Photo Gallery look fantastic on any office wall and reflect your corporate prowess.

Golf prints by Sport Photo Gallery

A company’s office speaks volumes about the personality and professionalism of the business. If a company isn’t making a statement on its own doorstep about itself and what it does, then what hope can there be for its customers? For example, a creative advertising agency that’s run from a pokey magnolia-walled shoebox isn’t exactly going to enthuse prospective clients who are considering using them to shout about their brand to the rest of the world. Likewise, a legal practice that can’t even be bothered to lay a presentable and safe carpet probably isn’t the best bet to represent you in your accident in the workplace claim. Here’s a brief guide to how you can bring the various parts of your office to life:

Print photos on canvas and set the perfect tone

Reception – to use a cliché, but one that’s still true nevertheless: first impressions count. If there’s one part of the office where you need to pull out all of the stops from the point of view of impressing visitors, then it’s the reception area. Consider the context and be creative with your choice of photo or pattern. A welcoming theme might be a good idea here, so think along the lines of expressing greetings through imagery or large lettering, foreign languages etc. Maybe print photos on canvas in a series of panels to build up a mosaic theme, welcoming visitors and telling the story of your company all at once.

Boardroom – the most appropriate room for making the big, bold statement. This is your war room, where clients come to talk and listen to you and where new business is won or lost. Think of images that state your identity – it’s a golden opportunity for branding your company in front of the people who have the potential to make or break it. Print photos on canvas in large format and give your main image centre stage. Use your company logo with a striking, relevant image for maximum impact.

Open work spaces – often the exclusive domain of your staff, images used here should try to create a pleasant environment for working. Subtle colour tones might be the most appropriate for these images, as bold colours can often be too ‘loud’. There’s also a good opportunity here to build staff morale and instil a team mentality by creating a ‘staff wall’, featuring pictures of employees socialising together or taking part in team-working activities the office may have taken part in. Print photos on canvas in wide format for landscapes, and in smaller formats for employee pictures.

Modelling History in the 1920s

By the 1920s, fashion was a booming industry. The upper classes in Britain and America were obsessed with the latest fashions, and who was wearing what was the focal point of many conversations. To find out more visit http://www.themodellounge.com/info-pages/a-history-of-modelling.html

Modelling beginnings

This was the point at which modelling became one of the main ways that designers sold their clothes. Photographers were beginning to be more adventurous with their medium, and were starting to use more complex sets, making their models look natural in the clothing. In many cases, the models were the wives of famous people, or young ladies from the aristocracy, who had the figures for the clothes and who were well-enough known to appeal to the designer’s customers.

One of the most creative photographers of this period was Baron de Meyer, who grew up inSaxony, but married into English nobility. His shots used soft focus and backlighting to create new effects in print, picking out certain areas of the clothing, the model or her jewellery to create highlights in the photographs. He was the first photographer to see modelling as a natural way of displaying clothes, and his photographs are still cited today as a key turning point in modelling and fashion photography.

American Vogue

At the same time, in theUSA, Edward Jean Steichen had established a photographic studio inNew York, and was taking photographs for American Vogue and Conde Nast. He too used well-known models, and experimented with settings and light to create pictures that would stand out in the magazines, creating interest in the clothes, the designer, the models and the photographer.

This was the start of fashion being influenced by factors outside the studio. The excavation of Tutankhamen’s tomb in the early 1920s created a desire for Egyptian-style jewellery, and there was still a military influence on fashions – particularly airforce styles – with leather jackets and silk scarves becoming popular.

Modelling 1920s fashion was much easier than it had been just 20 years ago. Ladies’ clothes were looser, shorter and easier to wear, making fashion photography a much shorter and more creative process.

Modelling as we know it has evolved because of photography. It was only when photography became popular in at the beginning of the 20th century that designers and retailers started to use live models instead of pencil drawings to sell their clothes. To find out more visit http://fashionversusart.blogspot.co.uk/2010/11/history-of-fashion-model.html

Picture development

The development of halftone printing techniques meant that pictures could be developed quickly enough to be published in the magazines of the time, whereas previously, the printing time was too long and costly to justify replacing hand-coloured fashion drawings with still photographs.

Photographers of the time were interested in experimenting with the new technology, and fashion designers were quick to see the appeal of showing how their clothes looked on a “real” woman, as opposed to a line drawing. The aim was to use their imagination, and the creation of sets and posed situations to create an image that would appeal to the customer.

Originally, photographs were taken of models in clothing and were no more adventurous than that. The figures looked posed and uncomfortable, and the backgrounds were uninspiring. In the 1900s, and beginning in France, photographers used models posed in outdoor garden situations, or inside in front of drapes and curtains, to promote clothing to a new market.

Corsets and all

The 1900-1910 was the last real era of very formal ladies’ fashion. Ladies were still expected to wear corsets to create their shape, and skirts were worn tight over the hips, down to the knees and then flounced out at the bottom. These fashions required dressing maids to help with the clothing, and the amount of attention needed to dress a model in several outfits, together with the time needed to take and develop a shot, would have made taking fashion photographs a very involved process.

By the time the First World War began in 1914, women required very different clothes, and the idea of modelling fashions for the camera began to take off.

High quality motocross parts and accessories could help you stay safer on the race track with a range of branded, well-fitted and fully compatible parts that ensure you maintain control of your bike and perform at your best. Stick to the best in the business like Fox Motocross.

fox motocross

Motocross racing is considered an extreme sport due to its dangerous nature. In almost any sport, participants are expected to take safety precautions and keep their bodies in tip top condition. But when you are operating a vehicle in a motor sport, bikes needs to be in just as good a condition to keep riders safe. Motocross parts and maintenance are essential to the condition of your bike and its performance in a race.

Secured Motocross Parts are Safer

In such an accident-prone sport, responsible riders will always ensure that their motocross parts are of the highest quality and fitted correctly to keep injuries to a minimum. Vibrations from regular racing can loosen a range of motocross parts. Safety-conscious riders will make the effort to regularly check their motocross parts for damage as well as tighten nuts, secure handlebars, axels and anything else that may become loosened through regular motocross.

When riders are performing at their best, it can be devastating to have to drop out or come last due to the condition of their bike. Motocross enthusiasts will know how that poor maintenance of the simplest of motocross parts, like an air filter, can cause an accident. With consistent motocross maintenance and the acquisition of high quality parts; riders have the potential to limit the amount of injuries they sustain as a result of bike faults.

Safety Gear: Reduce the Chance of Injury

No rider can say they have never come off their bike. In a sport where 90 foot jumps are being taken in close proximity to others; it is almost expected that at some point you will suffer some sort of injury. Just as important as motocross parts are motocross safety gear that minimise the seriousness of any injuries you may sustain and can in some cases prevent them altogether. Specialist suppliers of motocross parts will stock a range of high quality helmets, goggles, boots and body protection to ensure you stay safe on the track.

The last thing you need while playing golf is to be distracted. That sounds like a very serious statement.

But think about it. You normally play a round of golf each week. That’s usually Wednesdays, middle of the week, a welcome break from all the pressures of work. Perfect, right? Well, not exactly. You see, you’ve been showing dismal performances. Your handicaps are higher than some people’s I.Q. and you’re the subject of all those golfing jokes.

Then one day, you change your strategy. You decide to play on a Saturday morning instead. It’s a weekend and there are less distractions. And lo and behold! Your performance improves a bit. Not exactly enough to make national headlines though. But good enough for you.

This is a classic example of why one shouldn’t be distracted while playing golf. Distractions and other things on your mind can adversely affect your game. What’s that we hear? It can’t be helped, you say? Think again. Here are some ways to help you stay focused on your game and drown out all those distractions:

- For starters, you may want to look directly where you are aiming. This is normally down the range, or the hole. This is very applicable when setting up for a shot. Whether teeing off, putting or simply taking a shot, look where you want that ball to land. This stimulates your mind with thoughts of “ok now, let’s try and hit this one”.

- You may need to do this a couple of times before taking that swing. You see, the mind is a peculiar thing. It tends to wonder off every chance it gets. Whether at work, while watching television or on the golf course. So taking a look at your desired path repeatedly helps the mind stay focused on the task at hand.

- Don’t simply look at where you want the ball to go. Visualise your shot. From your swing, to hitting the ball, the ball in flight, to its landing. Yes, this may seem like some “mind control technique” but more often than not, it works. This is sort of like visualising how you want your life to be. In this case, its psyching yourself up to make that shot—how you want it to be.

- Oh, and you may want to start doing these even before you hit to course. On the way to the golf course would be an excellent idea. Or even while your preparing your golf bag for the next game. Don’t dwell on it too much though. Simply take the time to plan ahead.

As we mentioned earlier, the mind is a peculiar thing. It is still up to you to let it know who’s in control. So take the time to focus and don’t let those everyday distractions creep in and ruin your game. Do this and we assure you, your golf game is on its way to new heights. Or at least a drastically improved handicap. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/golf/

If you’ve decided to incorporate Yoga into your training regime to improve how you handle your golf clubs, here are a few exercises to start you off.

Swinging your golf clubs uses different areas of the body that you should focus on when training. The hands and wrists and spine and legs can all be strengthened using yogic exercises. If you incorporate yoga poses into your training regime three times a week, you will increase your range of motion and strengthen the muscles to reduce the risk of injury. The poses below are designed specifically to focus on the spine and should be slowly repeated, five to ten times.

The Cat

This pose is great for stretching your spine. On all fours, with your hands directly under your shoulders and fingers spread, push the top of your feet into the floor and arch your back. Draw your navel in as you push off and breathe in, curving your chin into your chest. Focusing on the spine when you are training with yoga is important to reduce sprains or strains when you swing your golf clubs.

The Cow

It may seem silly calling yoga postures after animals, but imaging the animal can help you visualise the pose. Once more, swinging golf clubs can be dreadful if you have a bad back – you need to keep training and exercising the spine to help reduce injury. The cow pose is on all fours as above, except this time you press your spine towards the floor as you breathe out. Lift the head up but do not hyper-extend your neck.
The Cobra

As above, incorporating this pose into your training will keep strengthening the spine to help you handle the swing of your golf clubs. Lying front down, place your hands below your chest with your ankles and legs pressed together. Lift your chest off the floor and hold for five breaths.
The Dog

On all fours again, spread your arms forward to the top of your yoga mat and spread the fingers. Then stretch back as you move as if to sit on your ankles, but maintain a 90 degree angle at the knee joints. Remember to inhale and exhale.

Working on exercises that focus on the lower back is also important in your training regime if you want to improve the swing of your golf clubs. It is the foundation of stability and power in your swing.

Other Yoga poses you can incorporate into your training to improve back strength are:

Crescent lunges

The Triangle Pose

Woodstock conjures images of peace and love and thousands of Americans still idealise it as the ultimate in music festivals. In some ways it was the epitome of free music festivals – but it began as a profit-making venture. It only became a free music festival when the organisers realised that they had completely underestimated how many people would turn up, and that the entry gates had been torn down by eager arrivals. Luckily for the organisers, it did eventually make a profit from record sales and the hugely popular film made during the three day event.

Woodstock was originally meant to take place in the town of Woodstock, hence the name. The townsfolk didn’t like the idea, and blocked it, as did the inhabitants of Walkhill, the next town chosen. Music festivals were thought to attract over-large crowds and trouble. Eventually organiser Sam Yasgur persuaded his father to allow the music festival to be held on the family’s alfalfa field in Sullivan County, 40 miles from Woodstock.

Give that the numbers rose from the anticipated 200,000 people to nearly 500,000, Woodstock ’69 was one of the most trouble-free music festivals. It did have its problems though. There was a fatality from a drugs overdose, an accidental death involving a sleeping bag and a tractor, and another due to a fall from scaffolding. There were also three miscarriages and two births.

Some of the acts approached to perform were left kicking themselves after the event. Woodstock didn’t seem like a big deal in music festivals, and Led Zeppelin turned it down in favour of a gig that paid more. The Doors cancelled at the last moment, probably because Jim Morrison hated performing in large outdoor venues. Bob Dylan had to pull out when his son became ill. And the organisers wanted the Beatles but turned down John Lennon’s Plastic Ono Band.

One controversial performance, and one which went down in music festivals history, was Jimi Hendrix’s version of The Star Spangled Banner. The Vietnam War was already underway and Hendrix generated sound effects with his guitar that sounded like gunfire.

In 1997, the site of the concert and 1,400 surrounding acres was sold in order to create the Bethel Woods Centre for the Arts. It opened on July 1st, 2006 with a performance of the New York Philharmonic. On August 13, 2006, Crosby Stills Nash & Young wowed 16,000 fans at the new Centre – exactly 37 years after their appearance at the mother of all music festivals – Woodstock ’69. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodstock
